Painting A TV With A Poltergeist

Well,
The Crazy Lady did it!
THE CRAZY LADY
PAINTED HER TV.

I know, I know...
What kind of person
paints a TV?
Simple-
One that doesn't want an
ugly black box
in an all white sitting room.

One that still has wonderful old
VIDEO TAPES
and needs a place to play them.

So~ here you go.
Remember it started like this...
Not too purty, is she?
Can I get an Amen to that?
First I talked nice to her
and lined her mouth with tape.
Then, because I thought she was
already squawking I went a
step further and shut her mouth for good
by filling the rest of her gaping face
with an  8x8 sheet of white paper.
Then,
I dragged her unwillingly out to
THE PAINT SHOP
commonly known as
the garage but don't tell MyHero
because he will have a stroke
on the spot if he knows I
painted inside the garage
no matter that the doors were open
and every square inch of floor was covered

I laid her face down so she
couldn't see what I was doing.
See that white spot on the back?
Yeah..that is Annie Sloan chalk paint.
I finally found something it
DOESN'T WORK ON
(that is 4 coats).
It looked worse in person that it does here.
Then I commenced to spraying
with Kilz Primer.

Kinda scary, huh?
And not looking too promising at this point.
But, like the pig giving up its bacon,
I am COMMITTED at this point.
There is no turning back now.
(I hope I don't get committed-
the other kind of committed-
when this posts)
Well, one light coat should do
it, right?
So....
Onward I go...
Just like a
Christian soldier..except my
weapon is a spray paint can
and my armor is my dirty old
chambray shirt and yucky jeans.

First coat of
Heirloom White
is on.
Looking pretty good~
Second coat finishes the job.
Then, ever so gently,
I peel open her mouth
so she can talk again...
And here she is..
TA DA!
And, as you can see
she still works!
Wanna see her up close and personal?
Not bad for an old broad, huh?

Oh...and remember the
POLTERGEIST?
Well, when I got this baby
out to the garage
I noticed that apparently
SOMEONE
was trapped inside.
It's okay.
I told her to
GO TO THE LIGHT
and it appears that she
is now living in my lamp.

So, if I can paint a TV,
anyone can.
Although a good dose of
CRAZY helps you
get started.

Toodles!

  13. Diana, You are amazing. When I read where you were spray painting, I thought it would go into the airvents onto important things and not work...but by golly you did it. Good job. Smiles, xo, Susie

  22. I thought you were going to take this apart when you painted it. You know that primer and paint got inside don't you? It might catch on fire...because all the circuit boards get really hot in there.
    You are insane, woman!
If it starts smelling, please unplug it and set it outside for observation- LOL.
    It does look good.
Have a fun day. Can't wait to see what else you paint!

  25. Diana...that was GENIUS!!

Just plain SMART. You go girl.
If you just *go for it*, it will work...that's my motto.
What a beautiful transition, who knew? You did!
My daughter glued an antiquey gold frame to the front of her little ugly black TV and it's fantastic!
    Where there's a will there's a way.
    Loved your story too. hehehe

Have a beautiful day and glorious weekend.

  29. I wanna ask? how did you paint the buttons and where the tapes goes? did you just spray paint them and let the excess [aint go in the cracks?

    please tell

    ReplyDelete
  30. OK - I must admit, when you first started talking about this I even thought, I think she's gone over the line to the dark side -

We had one of those little TV's and kept it for the same reason - those darn tapes we (meaning you and I) can't give away (why, by the way??) or throw away (oh heaven's no - and fill up the dump with plastic?)

OK - I have to admit - I love it!! And, none of us, no not one, will tell your Hero you painted in the garage, because we have all been in the sacred place and have done such things too!

Weekend is coming, have a great one!
    Gentle hugs,
    Donna

  31. My mouth was hanging wide open in utter disbelief as I was reading this. I kept thinking there was no way that TV would work with paint getting in all those vents on the back.

What a surprise to see that it did and it looks darn good to boot!

    What a clever idea, Diana.

  32. YOU ARE AMAZING! What wouldn't you try...okay, I won't ask that. This is super. It's a great transformation and gives it a more modern touch. What did hubs think?

Last week it was our new word-B'Love. This week-TV painting and exorcism! What's next? I'm afraid to ask!!
Truthfully, I love your 'shabby' TV and think you're about the bravest lady I know.

  41. Dearest Diana,

Your TV turned out just PERFECT! Had to show this to my husband.
Just read your comment on Rebecca's post about your problem of not being able to add or delete blogs following on the sidebar. I had that same problem too and I did first copy all the URLs of the blogs I follow. Next I deleted the entire gadget, took it off. Started from scratch putting a new list back on, minus some that I no longer follow and some that had stopped posting. A lot of work but that's obviously our fate with this Blogger. There's always something to worry about and taking away our precious time.
    Love to you,
    Mariette

  50. Diana, you crack me up. I love how you wrote your post. Made me smile.

The old gal looks great :)

Loved your comment on my blog. I had a Barbie too. She had black painted on hair and 3 wigs. Red, blonde and brown. This on in the 60s.

Mom crocheted her a nice light purple sleeveless dress with a neat fold down collar. Had Ken and Skipper too. Fun fun. :)

    Take care, Janet W ((hugs))

  55. Oh my gosh, where was I when all this genus was happening. This is awesome. You deserve a metal, no a trophy for fixing the main thing every housewife in America has had to deal with. The big eye sore that stares back!

  56. Good heavens! YOU ARE brave!! And the buttons don't stick or anything!
"ohhhh ..this is too much! How can I be so lucky to have this person in my life! I can be brave about so many things if she can PAINT a television!" *shuts down the computer and is off to bed grinning!*

  57. You did a fabulous job on this! Now, would you please come here and paint one of mine? I know you'd love Texas...tomorrow. It's rainy & cold now but supposed to be 65 and sunny tomorrow.

I don't have a garage so there's no worries about any heroes being upset. I don't have a hero here anyway. LOL

  58. I am with the gal who 's hubby would say. You have to be kidding. Is that paint not going into the rest.

Well I added the Kidding part as that is what my hubby would add.

    Nice Job girl!

  59. I can't believe you did that! I would have been so chicken! I have a similar TV I use for DVD's. I hate the dark color and was tempted to buy a new flat screen and DVD player but hate to spend the money when this TV works perfectly good. Now you have me thinking. So none of the spray paint got inside the little slots and caused any trouble? I bet if I ran this past the husband he would flip! (He's an electrician...I just have to ask and see what his reply will be!!! LOL!) I'll let you know if I do it!
