Do Not Pass Gas

You know how it is when
you are traveling
and you arrive at a hotel
late..
and you are so glad to find
a room?

I have two criteria when we
are in that situation.
It has to be
CLEAN
and it has to be
SAFE.

We hit Prarie du Chien, WI,
late and checked into a
nice hotel that sat back off the
road.
How do you attract customers
we asked-being as you are behind
the BIG CHAIN hotels~
The young man said-
Once people find us they always come back.
And so will we.
It was extra clean and quiet and safe.
Bingo!  We have a winner.
The Windsor Inn.

We ate late and fell into bed.
When I opened my curtain in the
morning I saw this...
sweet!
Too bad I couldn't stay to enjoy
it for a bit but
You-Know-Who
had to drag us off to look at
BOATS!

Now across from BOATS
was this marvelous
water feature.
The tallest one of these is
about 25 feet tall..and
the "urn" that is overflowing
with water on the top is
about the size of a
milk can.
(It's cleverly hidden in the grass)
Cool, huh?

And look behind it!
Do you see that shabby old
piece of spire?
Looks like it was from an old church.
Don't you just love it?
The water feature sits at the edge
of this pond.
We saw some barges...

And some houses..

This one is for sale in
Winona, WI!

I SOO want to get this house
and fix it up.
How far is it?
FIVE HOURS?
Sigh..too far to drive
on a daily basis,
I guess.
Well, can I just have the
front door then?
I guess someone else will have to love
her back to beauty.
A bit of a drive brings us to
Lake City, MN
A beautiful town...beautiful..
But...Onward we go...
We hit a detour..
and we need gas...
seriously NEED gas...
we're a far piece out in the country...
Gas? Hmmmm...Maybe...
But~ I am SOOOOO
not going to the bathroom there...
NEVAH!

Did I make it?
Did I find a bathroom?
Did I ever leave the gas station?
Stay tuned...
cuz...ya just never know~

  1. Love this...feel like I have gone back in time and the older the get the more I want to escape into a time capsule and escape our frantic crazy chaotic world and escape to a sleepy quite genteel place.....this looks like that kind of place!!

  2. Did you get an BBQ while there, I see they serve it.....and even if you didn't go to the bathroom, you didn't say if you were hungry.

I'm glad you were able to get away, and hope he didn't drag a boat home this time.

  8. HAHA...what a funny post. I will keep reading, because like you I will not "GO" just anywhere.
While on a trip across coutry with my sister, I told her I'd rather go behind a tree, than to of some bathrooms we saw. LOL

  9. I sure hope you found a bathroom in plenty of time. But - if you absolutely CAN'T find one - country bathrooms are available in many states. Just look for a couple of metal rails sticking up at the sides of bridges. If you see some, pull over. It's a nice little ladder that takes you over the side of the bridge to the ground - where you can then hike "under the bridge" for a little privacy. Of course... there may be trees where you live, but here in the flat, boring part of the country under a bridge just has to do.

  11. I am the same way!!! I will NOT sleep just anywhere and I definitely will not go potty anywhere. The area has to be clean and look safe!
Can't wait to hear how everything went!

  12. I love all these photos! Love the gas station, but I wouldn't pee there either. Still, that's the way a lot of them used to look. FUN!
That fountain with the arched window thing is faabulous! You should have made John bring that home and stick it in your yard!
If I get to where I can travel, we will send John and Steve one way and we will go the other. Steve's a stick in the mud, too. Then they can fight over who gets to be Gilligan and you and me will have some fun! Just like Thelma and Louise without the gun. And the jump.

  15. What a fun post Diana. My guess is you did find a bathroom and you made it out of that little hole in the wall. I'm like you, I would rather go alongside the road before I would go in there. But I still love seeing places like that are still in business. I think they are quaint somehow.
And I do love that spire.
    hugs from here...
