That was a song...
Anyone remember it?
I think I heard
Kris Kristofferson sing it
-back in the day-
Anyway...
My Sunday morning started
out quiet.
I had the house to myself
and took my self across
the Peninsula to ride
the lakeshore,
It was hot here and
hot there.
But the clouds were spectacular.
The cell phone means
that I am never too far away
from work....
or family....
Dast I answer it?
Can we cohme to yohu house, Nana?
Never mind that I am 40 miles from home
I'm a sucker for that little voice.
Yep...I have to stop at the grocery
store and then you can come to
my house.
Remember the
mini-kiddy-pool
in the backyard?
I fill it with cold, cold water.
The temps are high 80's here.
We don't get a lot of these days.
Jump in and cool off!
SweetCheeks has a woe-be-gone
look on her face.
Whatever is the matter,
SweetCheeks?
I cahn't swhim there.
Why not?
Cuz there is
NO LIFEGUHARD
on duty.
Jump in-kiddo-
If your face goes under
I'll save you.
Hey, Nanny,
(everyone else calls me Nana-
not SweetCheeks-I am
Nanny all the way)
Can you make us
octopus on the rocks
for dinner?
My pleasure.
It starts here...
And involves some cutting.
(that is SweetCheeks finger there
holding a chip in her hand-
I do NOT have 6" fingernails)
And ends here
with ketchup dots for eyes and mouth.
Now what's the matter?
I dohn't like thiss onhe cuz
hims tohnge iss stickhing out.
Oh my Lord in Heaven,
please protect this child
from her other
"normal" grandparents-
I think that's where she
is headed tomorrow.
I just have a couple words
for them...
Good Luck & God Bless
This is a hoot! And you get voted best nana of the year.....so creative your "octupus on the rocks" and so funny about Sweet cheeks comment about the lifeguard.....this is adorable and the next best thing to being right there with you!
ReplyDeleteThat girl is gonna be a handful, when she starts school. You may want to change your name, and move far far away.

ReplyDeleteI remember the song----
ReplyDeleteAnd there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.

Oh my goodness, I am laughing so hard. She just keeps us in stitches. Your dinner idea for them is incredible..my kids would have loved that! Without the tongues sticking out, of course! lol.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Mary
I have heard the hotdog/mac and cheese thing called a lot of things, but I've never heard of octopus on the rocks!!! I spit my coffee out over that one!!
ReplyDeleteThey are precious!!! I used to say "Lord, please protect my children from their mother, because I'm about to crazy".
I guess when they are that age, any prayer can't hurt!
xxDaniella
That is such an adorable recipe!! I need to try that for my kiddos and I'm cracking up over SweetCheek's commentary! :-)

Aren't kids the greatest! My youngest always had funny things to say. It was actually quite embarrassing sometimes. You'd be shopping in some big box store somewhere and he'd see some overweight person and ask them flat out where they bought their underwear.... because they don't have extra extra extra eeeeexxxxxxxxtra large in most stores.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not kidding. He did that once, and I wanted to run and hide. You can't just leave a four year old behind and pretend you don't know him like you can a teen. *LOL* It's funny now.... but it sure wasn't then.
That girl is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun Nana you are !! I love the octopus on the rocks and sweetcheeks is precious !! I wanna come play at your house. :)
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of my favorite posts of yours, EVER!! HA!!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!!!
Sending a ton of love your way ~
Oh--this is wayyyy too cute!!! I'm still laughing about the lifeguard!! But good thing that she is so cautious!!

Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteYour post made me laugh. My Emma(7)said she wanted her favorite cafe on speed dial..and when she calls she wants them to ask"your usual Emma ?" I too wonder where these very young people learn things. I totally love the octopus on the rocks...I will copy it for Emma. Smiles, Susie
Hey Nanny, you rock! Seriously. Better get your lifeguard certification before she figures out that lifeguards need that. LOL
ReplyDeleteThat is too cute. I'm not sure if I could eat it with the tongue sticking out either though. Take a look at this link when you have a second - could be your new lunch for the kids. Grosses me out. http://simplydesigning.blogspot.com/2011/07/hot-dog-pasta.html
ReplyDeleteOh that is too funny! haha! I love the little attitude your grandaughter gave you about the tongue sticking out...that is something my daughter would do to! hahaha!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and following! I am now your newest follower!
