Yes~Yes~
I KNOW I live
in Wisconsin.
I KNOW that
Chocolate Gravy
is a Southern dish
but I think I am a
Dixie girl at heart
cuz I love the South.
I'm posting my Thursday
post tonight
because
SOMEONE
Bj over at SweetNothings
told me
they were doing a little
"blurb" on my
Chocolate gravy~;>)

I lived in Florida
for several years
but most
S'utherners will tell
you that
Florida is
NOT the REAL SOUTH...
whatever that means.
While living there
I developed a taste for
grits-ummm.hmmmm..
with lots of REAL butter
and salt and pepper please.
AND a taste for this treat.
Now, if y'all want you can
go ahead and slave over
the bisquit part OR
you can buy Bisquick.
I choose the latter course.
I suppose you could even
lower yourself to buying those
bisquits in a tube...but I'm
not that far down yet!;>)
(sorry all you tube openers)
But you bake yourself up
some Bisquick bisquits
and then you stir up this...
And pour it over those
bisquits and you will have
a feast fit for a king..
or in my case,
a Queen...THE Queen
if you remember yesterday's post.
Oh..enjoy..enjoy..
At least once! And if you can
still do your zip up you
can have some more
tomorrow~
Did I mention that this
is one of
SweetCheeks
very favorite recipes?
Go figure!
Whoooops!
Forgot to add the recipe~
Here it is..
Paula Deen's version:
Chocolate Gravy
1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 cups whole milk
Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat. Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa. Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and whisk well to remove lumps. Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits.
I want to be just like her when I grow up!

I think I'll stick to honey! I'm a chocolate lover, but that's going a bit too far!
ReplyDeletethis is new to me,, never saw this before but I am a Canadian and a northern one at that, but I would eat that on anything,,just about!
ReplyDeleteWowzer, Diana! Please tell me that if you eat this standing up, the calories don't count! I've never heard of chocolate gravy, but you sure can count me in! And as I was reading your post, I was going to tell you that you must be the Midwestern version of Paula Deen, and then you mentioned the queen of butter (or "budderrr", as Paula says!) herself! How funny is that?!
ReplyDeleteOh good gravy what will be next? I bet that is good though!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of chocolate gravy! I'm thinkin' I might skip the biscuits and put it on ice cream. I've been in FL for 12 yrs. and you are right it is NOT considered The South! --OK, it looked like the address that Blogger was trying to use was cheapchichome.blogspot.com (?) which is my url, not address. I can't figure out this mystery. I'll have to watch if anyone else has this problem. Hugs, Kim
ReplyDeleteWow, I never heard of chocolate gravy--I'm a new convert though!!! LOL

Hi diana, it does look delicious, and naughty!! no wonder sweet cheeks loves it! How are those cheese grits made? i always wondered, i have heard them being talked about before, but never knew, its not something that people eat over here.. Hope you have a very wonderful day; lots of love and hugs, Laura xxx
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Oh my gosh Diana, you are killing me here! I grew up just outside of Hershey, PA and I can still smell the cocoa. And although I have never heard of chocolate gravy, I don't think I've ever met anything made from cocoa that I didn't love. But how is it over mashed potatoes? Yup, I love mashed potatoes too!
ReplyDeleteThat would put me on my back with a two-day migraine, but it does look GOOOD!!!!
ReplyDeletexoxoxo
Um...Miss D....
ReplyDeleteIt's your fault.
IT IS!
I just gained 10lbs in my mind! SHAME ON YOU!

That sounds incredible!! I'm totally going to try this since I am kind of a wannabe Southern gal anyway! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Love me some grits with butter, salt and pepper, too and I must try this chocolate gravy that I have never heard of before until you told about it.
ReplyDeleteWow! That sounds very interesting! I've never heard of chocolate gravy, but I'm from California.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Janet
No way! That is a hoot and do I LOVE chocolate! Must give this a try for sure! Thanks for the recipe dear!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Maryjane
There is no other way to eat grits, only salt and pepper, with a pound of butter, lol.
ReplyDeleteChocolate gravy, I posted the recipe once on a group I'm in, and, as I remember, only one 'southern belle' had ever heard of it...
I'm true southern, but I am not a big chocolate gravy fan, but the grandkids love it, with homemade biscuits and I'd have to double or triple that recipe for them, lol.
I'm a huge chocoholic, but don't remember this one. How could that be?
ReplyDeleteI thought you felt like a soul sista!
ReplyDeleteI grew up on this decadent stuff - it made me what I am today - overweight!!! wink
Thanks for the memories and the recipe!
Rhonda
Seriously? You're killing me here. Oh, I guess I will have to try this now since it's SC's favorite thing...she knows everything about everything so you got to trust her judgement.
ReplyDeleteWe get the frozen biscuits in the bag. They are not the canned for sure and closest to home made without all the fuss. Try 'em, you'll like 'em. And they are great for last minute planning. I use a silicone pad under mine or you can use parchment.
I found the silicone thingy at a kitchen gadget store and use it all of the time so things don't get too brown on the bottom.
Did you know that when I was a kid, I made the biscuits at Hardee's? Best biscuit maker then had. For the best ones, mix your dry batch and let it sit in the fridge over night. Go back and cut your shortening down smaller, make a well and add your buttermilk.
Always mix your trim dough back in with the next rolling and always bake a full tray- if you are out of biscuits, use the trim dough at the end.
Always flour the cutter every time and come down straight for level biscuits.
But, you probably already knew all of that...
Hugs- Tete
Oh yummmm, this sounds great. I'm a full blood southern gal and I've never eaten chocolate gravy. Gasp! And I'm a chocoholic Ü I will be trying this.
ReplyDeleteI hereby declare you and Sweet Cheeks honorary Southern Belles for loving grits, Bisquick and gravy of any kind, lol Ÿ
Those look so yummy & I love chocolate in any form!
ReplyDeleteNow this beats all! I've never even in the south heard of this before ... & we spend a LOT of time down yonder. Love Bisquick, have to give this the old try!
ReplyDeleteTY for you sweet wishes for the little church down our road. The congregation I am sure will rebuild. All that is left is the frame.
Have a wonderful week.
TTFN ~
Marydon
Diana, You had me at "chocolate". Maybe I'll skip the biscuits and just drink it from a glass. I've got to cut down on calories! lol.
ReplyDeleteSounds like heaven to me.
xo,
Sherry
That's about the ONLY way I'd EAT GRAVY...
ReplyDeletewith CHOCOLATE...

OMG this is not okay to post!!!! How am I going to fit in my swimsuit eating these. You know you could top with sliced strawberries too..chocolate and strawberries..yum!
ReplyDeleteOkay so my mixpod sounds fine to me. The music I have after the ocean waves has talking in it because its from the Ondine movie...is that what you mean. Or does it all just sound bad? I really don't like mixpod. I may just have to switch back to playlist. Let me know please :)
Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteWOW I have never heard of this, dangerous stuff!!
Hey I saw that great sparkler shot below, now we know who had the fancy photography going... you! and sweet cheeks made a great model:-)
Hugs,
Bella
My grandmother made us chocolate gravy all time growing up. This sounds just like her recipe. It is amazing. Those who have never had it are missing out. Please try it. You won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteMy Granny taught me to make it by using "pinches" and "handfulls". All of my cousins/Aunts/Uncles would show up for breakfast whenever the words "chocolate gravy" were mentioned. Still one of the family favorites! Throw a pinch of salt into it at the end, it enhances the cocoa flavor.
ReplyDeleteLol... This is so funny, never heard of chocolate gravy until I married my husband who is from Arkansas and I from Texas.. It has become a favorite in our household.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh... this makes me think of my Daddy. We had Chocolate Gravy and Biscuits growing up. His mother, my grand ma, would make a pot of this not-too-sweet 'gravy' and serve it over her homemade biscuits with a big glass of fresh dairy milk to us grand kids when we visited at Christmas time. They lived on the Eastern Shore of North Carolina. I guess those hard working farmers could afford all the carbs and calories! ; ) But please, y'all...... don't knock it until you've tried it! Such a treat on a cold winter morning. Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteI am a southerner all the way, and was raised on this! Grits and chocolate gravy bisquits and bacon or sausage was a weekend treat we looked forward to all week. The gravy tastes like the time where fudge has had the butter added, but not quite ready to set up...rich, warm, and sooooo good. It's really not too sweet if you are eating other breakfast foods with it, kind of like pancake syrup. Try it, you might become just a little bit southern, y'all!
ReplyDeleteWe love chocolate gravy! I'm from Arkansas....and whoever said Florida wasn't the "real south" must have visited a touristy area. My husband was born and raised in Florida....and believe me, most the folks I know are most definitely "real south!"
ReplyDeleteI love this stuff! I'm gonna try it on French toast in morning.
