My grandkids love
coming to my house
because I believe in
Fairy Tales.
Yes..and I live
in a very, very
Fractured Fairy Tale
We just call it
Nana's Fairy Tale.
coming to my house
because I believe in
Fairy Tales.
Yes..and I live
in a very, very
Fractured Fairy Tale
We just call it
Nana's Fairy Tale.
There is a
resident fairy
that leaves tiny
gifts in the
gifts in the
litte hidey-holes
built into the steps
that you can read about
here.
This comes from one
of my favorite
little
Fairy Books
called
Flower Fairies
of the
Garden.
Where do fairy babies lie
Till they're old enough to fly?
Here's a likely place, I think,
'Mid these flowers, blue and pink.
(Pink for girls and blue for boys;
Pretty things for babies' toys!)
Let up peep now, gently. Why,
Fairy baby, here you lie!
Kicking there, with no one by,
Baby dear, how good you lie!
All alone, but O, you're not~
You could never be forgot!
O how glad I am I've found you,
With Forget-me-nots around you,
Blue, the color of the sky!
Fairy baby, Hushaby!
Take a moment...
just a moment..
to slip back into
the magic of
childhood..
to watch for fairies
and moonbeams on
water.
Forget the cares of the
everyday world
and become a child again...
just for a moment.
You'll be glad you did.
I promise!
And..
while you are
taking a moment
to smell the flowers..
make these..
Because
THESE COOKIES
that taste like
the fairies made them..
They literally
MELT in your
mouth,
Ingredients:
2 egg whites
½ cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
(or almonds-I like almonds)
½ teaspoon vanilla (or almond)
Makes 36 cookies
Directions:
1. Set the oven rack in the middle position. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Line two 14 inch by 16 inch baking sheets with parchment paper.
3. Place egg whites in the bowl and use a mixer with a
whisk attachment. Whip until foamy.
4. Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff but not dry.
5. Fold in salt, chocolate chips, walnuts, and vanilla.
6. Drop by teaspoons onto baking sheet. Place in preheated oven. Close door and turn off oven.
7. Do not open door. Keep cookies in oven for 6 hours or over night until cool. Peel cookies carefully from parchment paper.
Make these early in the morning
for afternoon tea
with the fairies
and share them with
your
"little friends"
that call you Nana.

I do believe in fairies, I do, I do...
ReplyDeleteYes, we should act like kids once in a while. Children grow up to fast these days. They start dressing older and wanting to do things that we used to do when we got older. They just don't realize they will be older soon enough. Those cookies look yummy and I think I have everything here to make them.
ReplyDeleteYou are a very cool grandmother indeed :-)
ReplyDeleteIf you have a kitty and notice milk is missing from her bowl each morning, it may be the fairies helping themselves. They like milk. Did you know that? And baby fairies nestle down in morning glories. :) We have an opening at the foot of the old wild cherry tree and I know for a fact that some fairies live there. I found one of their wands laying there one day.
ReplyDeleteDiana, You ask what I will be wearing to the wedding party celebration. The invite says casual elegance. LOL...whatever that means. I should know. It was my idea. Jeans with ruffles on the leg bottoms maybe? I bought a pair of peep toe gray silk flats a couple of months ago. Now all I have to do is find just the right outfit to go with them. xoxo

I love the little hidey-holes! Such a cute idea and a great way to use otherwise wasted space.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sweet post...in more than one way! I too believed in fairies and played with my imaginary friends as a child. I'd like to believe they are all still around!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
You always remind me that having fun is sooo important when raising children. I didn't have nearly enough fun when I was little. Not nearly enough. Everything was always serious. Too serious.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the brevity! :) I needed it today.
Love you girly~
Rebecca

I believe. I believe.
ReplyDelete(I'm off and running to see if the Fairies have left cookies outside my house.)
I'm clapping my hands because I believe in fairies...you are one fun grandma!
ReplyDeleteOh Diana Sweetie...
ReplyDeleteI do believe, I do believe. I love fairies and I know they flitter about in my garden. I have seen them often among the flowers, and sometimes if I listen very closely I am sure I can hear the singing of a little angel fairy.
Love the cookie recipe. I will have to give them a try. They look wonderful and sound yummy.
Thank you for a magical Sunday evening post. Many hugs and much love, Sherry
What a very lovely and sweet post. You are such a wonderful Nana and your grandchildren are very blessed to have you in their lives...and I know you feel blessed to have them. I love your beautiful and loving spirit and imagination.
ReplyDeleteI guess Blogger has been up to it's old tricks. Several wrote that they lost their followers for a day or two. Yesterday I lost my current post in the morning and it came back in the evening published as a new post!
I was going to post today but will wait until tomorrow morning when things settle down.
Have a great evening and keep an eye out for those lovely fairies. Thanks, Diana.
Oh yummy! You must be the best Nana in the world :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
Happy Early Monday Morning,
ReplyDeleteYou are an over the top NaNa...you know how I feel about you, Sweet Cheeks and Fairies. This forget-me-not-fairie is just precious.
Yes, I do load my pictures up from my computer per blogger...I have never done any thing different but it is not ironing itself out. I wish someone could give me the phone number to blogger because they certainly can take everything away, saying it doesn't exist but I have to sign everything Simply Debbie but yet to get to the new blog...I have to type it in every single time because the history on my computer does not recognize or retain it....just simply debbie but that goes to a dead end....oh well....such is life
Thank you for being such a friend and trying to help.
angel hugs
much love
simply debbie
I love Cicely Mary Barker and your cookies look delightful! I think I would have them with blackberries and a thimble full of nectar :)
ReplyDeleteawwww ... your little ones are so lucky to have a sweet fairy-in-disguise going by the name of nana. {i'll never tell}
