I was so saddened to come home to the news that
Elizabeth Edwards had passed away.
Cancer has taken another toll.
The strength that she showed
was an amazing thing to see.
I am humbled by Elizabeth Edwards
inner reserve.
She stood strong
in the face of controversy and humiliation.
She kept her faith
and protected her children
as best she could.
She dealt with life issues
with grace and acceptance.
God guide her
as she moves
from this world to the next
to be reunited with her son.
I hope there is some peace,
for her surviving children
knowing that she lived a life filled
with dignity and honor.
I pray that God blesses
them as they move
forward without their
mainstay in life.
And, yes, God bless
and forgive
John Edwards too...
for he was a weak man
that fell from grace and
now must deal with
the loss of a woman
that I believe he did,
in how own way... love,
as inadequate and
unsupportive as that
love was.
He, too, will have
to live with himself
and seek forgiveness
for the additional
burden he placed on
her in her final days, weeks
& years of life.
I hope his children
can forgive him,
for in that forgiveness
there lies freedom...
and they are going
to need a Dad
to lean on through
this ordeal.
I think we all
need the freedom
that comes with
forgiveness...
and with forgiving..
even when it seems
unwarranted.
And, I do believe,
that Elizabeth Edwards
is now free too..
free of pain..
free of suffering..
free of Earth's bondages.
She is going Home.
But for us...
A bright light was dimmed with
this passing.....
Diana
Amen.
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't know she had passed. How sad. I still can't think about what her husband did to her without wanting to spit nails....your words show you're a better woman than I.
ReplyDeleteShe is free...God bless her and I know he will. John, not so much ;/
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice tribute to Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteThank you!

What a wonderful woman Elizabeth was, and what a legacy she leaves to her children. She showed them how to show grace to someone who hurts you, she showed love to those around her, and she was a shining example to her children. May God's grace surround her children in this their time of need, and wrap them in his loving arms. And may John learn from his horrible mistakes and become the man, the father that his children need. God speed Elizabeth, may your reunion with your son be sweet and may you find the peace that knows no understanding.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and yours

Very well said, Diana. If we cannot forgive, how can we expect God to forgive us?
ReplyDeleteYou said it all....a remarkable woman with such
ReplyDeletegrace and dignity. She was a true inspiration to
me and so many others. Rest in peace, Elizabeth.
This woman went through a lot. I hate that she had to die. She is at peace now. God bless her family.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to see the blankets! I guess those 2 things (the corners and the selvege edge) could be the woman's "tricks" to making them. I can't think of anything else.lol.

Very appropriate words. Thanks for sharing this as I had not heard.
ReplyDeleteA very fitting tribute to a woman who showed grace and humility in her dealings with a life that didn't always deal fairly with her. May she rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing to say about 'John'.
I could not have said it any better, Diana. Bless you.....

It is so sad, isn't it? And she was too young to go. I don't think I could have ever forgiven her husband, if I were in her position.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweet friend. I'm still stunned even though I expected her to pass away soon. I've been so impressed by her strength. I don't believe I could have been so gracious to those who hurt me had I been in her shoes.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts now are with her children...
Love to you sweet friend~

So very well said Diana! I think you said it better than anything I've read so far.
ReplyDeleteAre you staying warm over there? Yikes!
I am freezing and I don't like it one bit!
I don't mind snow, but I sure hate this bitter cold.
Hugs,
Cindy
Very nice post. I read the story of her passing tonight on the plane in People Magazine. I wasn't as intuned until I read it. It brought tears to my eyes that she had relief in dying - because her 16 year old son died before her - and she said that if you ever lose a child - it takes away the fear of dying. I thought that was very interesting...and probably brought her comfort in the end. I agree with you on forgiveness. Who knows on her husband. I learned a long time ago - there are two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
ReplyDeleteI was shocked to hear that she took a turn for the worse on the news the day before she died. It is such a heart wrenching story. She was a strong woman that had more tragedy than a person should have to suffer. We must all forgive as it is such a powerful and freeing experience. We don't know what went on in their private lives. No matter what, he made a choice that was wrong. I do hope he has repented because I believe she truly forgave him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tribute Diana, so well said. I too was saddened when I heard Elizabeth had passed. One day it was on the news that they couldn't do any more for her, and the next she was gone. She did live her life with grace and now I hope much grace is given her husband — he's going to need it. I pray that her children will be given the peace that passeth all understanding.
ReplyDeleteExquisitely said. I was so saddened by the news of her death. When they broke in to programming with the news that she had passed, everyone became so still as if in prayer. Blessings to her family. Yes, forgiveness is so important.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully worded post, Diana.
