After leaving Rice Lake, WI
we drove North (and West)
to Superior, WI and crossed the big bridge
into Duluth, MN.
I drove and MyHero took pictures..
so don't be blaming me if you don't like them.
After crossing into Duluth we took the road that
runs along Lake Superior.
It is beautiful..awesome old houses..
fine waterfront views..
But..
As you head North you come across
We first discovered Glensheen when
my daughter-in-law,
TheSecretAgent, told us about it.
Her family used to vacation in that area
every summer when she was a kid.
We went on a long weekend with her
(and MamasBoy) and took the tour.
FASCINATING!
What is even more fascinating is that
the owner was murdered by a relative..
and the tour guides never mention it.
Now...Wikipedia says that they
can talk about it now...but let me tell you..
they don't.
If you ever get a chance to go..
it is quite an experience.
MyHero said we COULD go on the tour again.
...but...
always with the "buts" buddy...
maybe we should drive a bit
further North and stop on our way back...
Yeah...right...I have heard that one before.
Do I look like I just fell off the turnip cart?
DON'T answer that!
It's the hair, isn't it? The dad-blamed hair
always gives me away!
Northward Bound...
We head towards
Two Harbors, MN.
There is a very cool lighthouse there.
The view is spectacular
But wait...
Here is MyHero's favorite sight~
A sight for sore eyes...
A sight that would make one
dream of the goodness that lies therein.
It is....
Oh Look- There's the sign...
And cleverly hidden behind the sign is this...
Lunch was good but
you only EAT lunch so that you
can have dessert!
After all...they call it Betty's Pies
for a reason.
YessirreeeBob...that is about the
best pie I ever had!As soon as we finish eating we head North..
Wait-we only go one block because
MyHero thinks he might find some cool rocks.
Huh? Yes! Rocks!
My Trader Joe bag in hand he is off..
(really off...I mean seriously...rocks?)
Off to a big adventure...
Hey, I yell...You look really cute with your purse.
Huh? What? He says as he looks up.
I said, The pickings look a little sparse.
Notice how I cleverly disguised that sentence..
and the fact that he is a deaf in one ear doesn't hurt.
What? He asks again.
Never mind....I am just taking a picture
of the bridge behind you...
A bridge that I hope to soon cross over and
head back to Glensheen....because
if I don't get to see it there may be mayhem involved..
Now...if you don't cover your screen with
white spray paint..
tomorrow I will tell you about our stay
in the Bates Motel...
You always start my day off right! I can't get enough and I sure can hardly wait until tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI'm researching this place in case you all disappear and we have to go lookin'...or call 911...I'll decide that after the research.
Hugs- Tete
PS Love the dude purse- so cute- but he should have one that matches his shoes!
Enjoyed the "tour." You have a great day, my friend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tour. I've never been up there before. Looks beautiful. Your "hero" sounds so sweet.
ReplyDeleteKelly
Looks like fun so far! That picture of the bridge is gorgeous Diana...belongs in a magazine!
ReplyDeleteI'm pooped. I have one day off while working a ten day stint...hating it!
See ya tomorrow.

Oh, pie!!!! I think pie is totally overlooked these days. Kids are growing up without the memories of pies for dessert. I used to love to go out to eat JUST for the fact that I got to pick out my own type of pie. I could care less about the meal, because I was dreaming of the pie afterward.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile and thankfully I was prepared and set down my cup of tea before reading your post (as I know that you're going to make me laugh the minute I take a big gulp). Beautiful views and the pie!!!
ReplyDelete;)
Looking forward to more and reading backwards to catch up. ;)

It looks beautiful there! What a fun trip you are on! By the way, now I have to go eat pie, mmmmm pie... that looked so tasty!
ReplyDeleteI agree with WeeFaeri - I must have pie!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour trips always look like so much fun!
My hubby has a bad ear too, so I can talk-smack behind his back. :)
Then, he'll get that dang tube fixed and can hear every word!
The trick, on my part - is timing.
Hugs, my friend,
gabriele
too funny! I am about to start a road trip with Bobby G. in the morning.....pretty much just ambling along not knowing where we are going....except we know we are heading North to leaf peep. And ....LOL...I am very familiar with that term "we'll stop back by on the way back"...yeah...uh huh...right! :) You make me laugh so hard....thank you. xoxo
ReplyDeleteDiana you are so hilarious!!! But I have to tell you, I was a little disheartened reading that your hubby likes to find interesting rocks because my son brings home all sorts of treasures every day (bark chips, rocks, trash, you name it!) and I have been hoping it is something he grows out of! Oh well, his wife can pick it all out of the washing machine someday! :-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Looks like fun...I love the bridge shot and the pie looks so yummy! ;D
ReplyDeleteOh, you are just too funny! Did the big guy find many rocks? I love that lighthouse, just gorgeous! And the pie looks almost as good as the monks' muffins!!
ReplyDeleteI think the photos look fabulous:)
ReplyDeleteMurder....that's sound interesting. But, not as interesting as the man purse!!!
ReplyDeleteI want pie!!!!!!!!! I laughed at the picture of hubby holding the purse and then I read where you said to him...nice purse lol !!!
ReplyDeleteLake Superior? It took us two days to get around that dam Lake when we moved out here from Ontario. That is one big Lake here in Canada!
I can't wait to hear about Bates Motel!!
