While my inner soul
craves the open road,
my heart keeps me tied in the spot
I call home.
If I did not have these
HOME TIES,
you might find me living the life of
A ROMANTIC GYPSY.
Spring always makes me long to roam.
There were nomads in our family line.
Good Irish chaps.
Men that traveled
to set up new towns
and,
once the towns were established,
they would move on to
build another settlement.
I think I inherited some of that trait...
that longing for the road.
While I LOVE my home,
I sometimes long
to pack my bags and
travel the highways and byways
of our beautiful country..
Spring and Fall both find me restless...
calling my name to explore
the lesser known roads of life.
the lesser known roads of life.
IF I could pack up and travel I might
choose something like this.
I could see myself parking this
in a quiet spot in the foothills,
in a quiet spot in the foothills,
brewing a pot of coffee,
listening to classical music and
reading a good book.
Idyllic, yes?
This bit of retro travel heaven
would work just fine for me, too.
would work just fine for me, too.

through the countryside
I could crawl into this bed
I could crawl into this bed
been able to travel
much since hubby
has had health issues.
Maybe that is what makes
the open road
call my name.
call my name.
Maybe it is because my soul is restless.
~or~
Maybe it is because I feel winter weary
and I am anxious for
Maybe it is because I feel winter weary
and I am anxious for
Soft Summer Winds.
How about you?
Any other souls out there
that want to
harness your inner
GYPSY?
Happy Friday.
Maybe I'll just take a
little trip---

Oh, If could have a camper like one of those, I just might do it! Really nice...maybe a bit TOO nice! LOL. I'm more of a rustic kind of person, but that last one with the shabby chic look it really sweet. Wouldn't mind parking it in my yard and just retreating there when I want to "get away". LOL. Sometimes we have to do our traveling from our desk chairs in front of the computer or on YouTube TV. It's cheaper that way...LOL. Praying all is well with you and your dear hubby. Maybe just a country ride would do...
ReplyDelete...Diana, I see that you have fancy dancy tastes! Flaunt it girl!!!
ReplyDeleteSince this is all fantasy, I'll opt for the old-fashioned gypsy caravan pulled by a big draft horse. But it would be a modern gypsy caravan with a bathroom and shower, hahahahaha! Oh, and air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteI love them all! My upstairs craft room is called "the Sea Gypsies Nest"!
ReplyDeletebobbie
I'm longing for a little trip. It has been too long. So far, I've been staying close to home because of Lizzie but soon it will be cottage time and she can come along!
ReplyDeleteI used to love it when we went camping. Getting away from home meant getting away from work and the telephone. Those were the days before mobile phones. Now I'd probably have my phone with me in case of emergencies, I do get away a couple times a year. I visit my son in Florida in the winter and my family in Ohio in the summer. A little trip is good for the body and soul. Hope you get out for that ice cream!
ReplyDeleteFrom one gypsy to another, Yes, I love traveling the open roads. It's the freeways I have a hard time with haha. I'm actually getting ready to take a road trip, and my son is coming along with me, so I'll take it slow, and wouldn't it be nice to have one of those campers to lay my head? Oh, I do hope you get to take the road trip that you are longing for, Diana. Thanks for this post today, Diana. It gets me out of the planning mode, which is the worst, and on my way to the gypsy road. ; )
ReplyDeleteI become a Gypsy in the spring and autumn. I usually get it stronger in the autumn. I want to fly with the birds... SOUTH.
ReplyDeleteHa!
Stay above water my friend... and do not blow away... and do not get struck by lighting. Our weatherman said be prepared for it all including a snow storm!! We will drop to the 20's tonight, it is currently 80!!
Oh, I felt this so much. There’s something about spring that just makes you want to grab a bag and go, even when you love being home. That picture of the quiet spot with coffee and a book sounds like absolute peace. I think sometimes the longing comes even more when life keeps us a bit tied down. You’re not alone in that feeling at all.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the one with the teal kitchen is gorgeous! I want it!! When I was younger, I wanted to travel to so many different places. But now I cannot travel, so I just look at the blogs of friends who do.
ReplyDeleteI am very content staying at home and love the quiet lifestyle. But those sweet pictures could tug at the heart and the roaming gene.
ReplyDeleteBoy I would be in that vehicle every chance I got! PERFECTION!!!
ReplyDeleteYESSSS!! My fidgety-flight patterns would encompass BIG sweepy places---no quaint little villages or sedate museum tours for me. I LOVE museums, and have been known to spend day after day just walking around silently, hands grasping wrists behind my back for safety to any precious exhibits, but the GREAT ROCK formations, the high Buttes rising out of nowhere on a particularly flat plane, the roar and grandeur of the FALLS or the tide or the wind through a Maine forest---those would be my travel plans. I would walk among the redwoods and sequoias with that same Charles Dickens old-man posture, possibly lying down on the needles for an hour-long gaze upupup.
ReplyDeleteI like anything that doesn't involve the interstate, though many perfect spots have been reached thereon.
I call to you, Kindred Spirit. Did you perhaps read Nan of the Gypsies when you were twelve?
The warmer weather releases our inner dreams. Travel, new places, new friends. It all sounds good, Diana. I'm ready to go!!
ReplyDeleteI once had a dream of living on a houseboat and dropping anchor in lovely bayous or back canals where the wildlife rustles all around you. Your camper photos look comfy and wonderful and I would glady have you park it in my carport for a nice long visit!! xo
ReplyDeleteWe've done a lot of traveling with Ken being in the military. We also had a RV and toured the country. Now I'm happy to stay put in my home in the woods.
ReplyDeleteOh, that wee yellow wagon has my name all over it! I'd love to unleash my inner gypsy, provided someone else would drive.
ReplyDeleteI sure long for a trip myself! Love all your caravans! Would be fun! xo Dolly
ReplyDeleteI would love to travel in a motor home/RV, but, I wouldn't be able to afford the cost of gas! Over $6.00/gal. over here!
ReplyDeleteI am really quite satisfied at home. I am always running so much I want to stay home. Doesn't mean I don't dream a lot though.
ReplyDeleteLove the fun pictures of clamping in style! We love to camp but rustic is what works here lol! I hope you can find a way to getaway somewhere fun soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm a home body, always have been. Every now and then I do dream about traveling though. It would be so nice to see other places.
ReplyDeleteI'm such homebody, but you would've gotten along great with my mom. She loved traveling and driving. She always said that was her therapy. Plus I think you would've had a ton in common...and gotten into a lot of trouble along the way. Two beautiful blondes with wicked senses of humor on the road...hmmm. 🤨 You might've needed a chaperone!! Hahaha! xo
ReplyDeleteDiana, I wish you lived closer to me. I found this lovely spot up on a lake close to Canada with cabins to rent. I have been wanting to go up there for the last couple years but I'm afraid most of my friends prefer shopping or going to the movies and I really don't want to go alone. Finding a friend that just wants to take a road trip and have a little adventure now and then would be fun. I picture myself in a rowboat with a thermos of coffee early in the morning fishing for my dinner. And then spending the day laying around in a hammock reading a good book or taking a short hike with my Beulah. Then to finish off the day with a fish fry. Why does that sound better than going shopping or going to the movies. I need a like-minded friend.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and have a sweet weekend. You're blogging sister, Connie:)
Coming back to mention those lovely accommodations you've chosen: That first one, with all the gilt and posh and art is practically the Sistine Travel. My Sis and BIL are on about their FOURTH travel-gear, moving up to such a house-on-wheels that has carried them all over the country.
ReplyDeleteHow I'd love to be a passenger in one of those small homes, with something new out your window every waking! Alas, this week has laid us low on even thinking such---Wednesday was the installation of a new sink/faucet/insinkerator (by choice and an Easter gift from Leah for HER kitchen upstairs). Then Friday came a visit from the oven-repairer; Solomon Gundy is out of Munnnndey. Thus the best laid plans, but nothing can erase, cancel or lay low our dreams.
Those caravans have real personality. The man I travel with is not likely to want the frills and furbelows, although I do have lots of pretty things in ours. We went camping for three days this past week, and it was a lovely little getaway. Our view overlooked a large bay and we watched the tides come and go, a cruise ship pass by on its way to Alaska, and lots of ferries. It was very relaxing. I hope that you can have a little getaway somewhere calm, dear friend.
