A PLEA AND A PRAYER-OR NOT----

One of the smartest men I have ever known
is my brother-in-law, Mike.
He is married to MyHero's sister.
This is the way I remember him and
my sister-in-law in their young
NYC days-
I remember him as a "hippie" with an old
purple van that we had to push to get it started.
I remember seeing him pick up an instrument
that he had never seen before and be able to play it.
I remember that no matter what subject we
mentioned-he knew something about it.
A smart, funny man with an off-beat sense of humor.

I am not quite sure how to word this
because I don't want to invade family privacy
but I want to put it out there.
Mike has advanced
BREAST CANCER.
You don't often hear about
BREAST CANCER in men.
They are not screened for it ,
nor are they expecting it..
It is one of the last things they check for.
That being said,
Mike's condition is very grave.

Mike has always been a self-sufficient person.
He has never asked for help.
He was always able to
SMART HIS WAY TO SUCCESS.
The sad thing is-
YOU CAN'T OUTSMART CANCER.

Mike's beliefs are different than my own,
but that is his choice and I am not a preacher.
He once heard my youngest daughter sing
at a concert and said...
IF I believed---IF I were a believer--
I would think I just heard an angel sing.
That is the most "religious" thing
I have ever heard him say.

So, today, I ask for prayers
and well-wishes and an uplifting of hearts..
Pray that Mike finds his way home
with peace in his heart.
Pray for his wife and children.
They are broken and filled with sadness.
Pray for his sister-she is devastated-
Pray that we can help them when the time comes
and stand as strong as we need to stand.

Maybe even pray for a miracle.
THAT would be a testimony, wouldn't it?

Mike, if you could read this-
I would tell you that-
You are loved-as my "brother"
and a kindred spirit.
We are rooting for you, buddy!

SILLY SATURDAY- AD SPINS- ADS AS I SEE THEM #`1

Back when I first started blogging
I used to do something called
Magazine Mockery.

It was basically ADS that I found
that I would put my own
"SPIN" on.

I have a full file folder of those ads
that need to be
EXPLAINED to MY liking.

I think Saturday is a good day to do this feature.
Everyone is busy and spending family time
so these will be
VERY SHORT READS.

Here we go with
AD #1

Roger told Connie that he had agreed

to install the expensive new refrigerator

because he thought she would fill

it with lots of healthy foods...

and start cooking more.

He gently told her, over cocktails,

that although he loved her dearly,

he was sick and tired of

drinking his dinner.

Happy Saturday folks...

try to NOT drink your dinner!

SHEETS AND SHADOWS AND SHUDDERS

SHEETS

My father always had a saying

that if someone drank

too much they were

THREE SHEETS TO THE WIND.

Well, I am not a drinker

so that saying has a whole

different connotation to me.

Yep!

I think of it literally-
I love the smell of line-dried sheets,

don't you?

SHADOWS

I love the play of shadows on

the sheets, too.
They hang bright and white

as the sun hits them from the East.
However, I always stand facing

the West to hang them.

Why?

Because here is what I see.
My Hero and I have a really early appointment

this morning so I may be absent a bit today.

I am hoping my book order gets here today.

I tracked it and it is on its way!

Meanwhile, while I am waiting for those books

I might take a little trip to Walmart.

I can always get an education there.

SHUDDERS

Ummmm...excuse me sir (?)

I think you could probably get by

wearing a

MEDIUM- the LARGE

looks a little BIG on you!

Just another DUMMY shopping at

Walmart!

You all have a  GREAT Thursday!!!

Don't do anything DUMMY DUMB!

NEW WORD WEDNESDAY - Normal????

It was a cold Fall day.
I was driving down the road
on the East side of town.
It was a road that went from
TOWN to COUNTRY
and back to TOWN
in about a 3 mile stretch.

Our little three year old Tara
was sitting in the back seat
long before seat belts were being used.
She leaned forward and tapped my shoulder.

Tara: MOM! I LOVE that NOMALOME!
Me:  What?
Tara:  That NOMALOME! I want to live there!
Me:  What? Where?
Me: We LIVE in a NORMAL HOME, Tara.
Tara: NO.WE.DON'T!
WE DON'T LIVE in a NOMALOME!

Me: What does it look like, Tara?
She starts to cry-
Tara: IT LOOKS LIKE A NOMALOME,
she says sobbing!

I bite the bullet because it is driving me crazy!
I turn the car around!
I start driving back up the road looking for
the NOMALOME.

I am looking at both sides of the road and pointing?
Me: Is that it? (pointing)
Tara: NO
Me: Is that it?(ponting again)
Tara:  NO
repeat those sentences about 300
times to yourself

We get all the way back to the starting point.
Me: Okay, Tara- I don't SEE a Normal home!
Tara:  You went passted it!

I am ready to eat the steering wheel.
I turn around AGAIN!

Me: OKAY! Now- TELL ME- when you see the
NORMAL HOME!

I drive slowly with cars dragging along behind me.
I. don't. care!

Finally-
Tara: THERE- THERE IT IS!
I look-
Here is what a
NOMALOME looks like!!!!
Tara:  I want to live there!
Me:  I bet that can be arranged!
And just for a moment......
I am ALMOST tempted to just leave her there...
almost~

You will never look at a
MOBILE HOME
the same way again-it is in our family-
and will always be
a NOMALOME!

I am over at the VA today- I would have taken
some cupcakes in (with sprinkles)
to SHARE with the VETS
but the pigs here ate them all...
and I am NOT talking about the
FOUR legged kind of pigs either.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

I wrote this for Memorial Day

a while ago but I think it is

relevant every day.

This means even more to me now that I am

volunteering at the VA Center here.

Memorial Day is here once more,

We fly the flags above our door,

We plant our flowers that mark the grave,

Of every solider that was so brave,

They fought for freedom for everyone,

Many lives snuffed out by a sniper's gun.

We proudly march in our little bands,

As daybreak filters across our lands,

But I wonder if we can truly see,

What cost it was to make us free.

Confederate soldiers fought the Yanks,

Some brothers fought brothers in those ranks,

To free the downtrodden that were lost,

To free all men at any cost.

My father was a medic in World War One,

A war not talked about by anyone,

Some men lost limbs and some were gassed,

Some were picked up by comrades, others

bypassed.

World War II! How tragic indeed,

People standing by watching others bleed.

Souls thrown to the winds with no remorse,

Foreign government standing on their own

course.

Vietnam was not a war they said,

Then how come so many soldiers ended up

dead?

No heroes welcome for them in sight,

They slunk home in the dead of night.

Should I go on-with Korea & Desert Storm?

Iran? Afghanistan? Are you getting warm?

Do you feel the pain you see in their face?

Does it make you squirm in your warm, safe

place?

I've just one more thing I'd like to say,

It's about celebrating Memorial Day,

Look around and everything you see,

Was paid out in blood so that we are free.

Put your hand on your heart,

For the blue, white and red,

Raise your eyes to the flag,

Say a prayer for the dead.

Because of a solider I can have my say,

So ~God Bless you this Memorial Day~

And To All Our Soldiers-
