SOCKS FOR CHRISTMAS? IT'S A WRAP(ping idea)!

You know how there
are mundane things like
SOCKS
that need to be wrapped?
And sometimes
you don't want to just
stick them in box
with a bow on it.
Right?
With a little extra work
you can make a really
CUTE SOCK PRESENTATION!

I shared this idea two or three years ago
but thought it is worth a repeat
with wrapping season upon us.

Look! Here's a peek!
Want to know how I did it?
Here we go~
First you must get a sock..
well, make it a pair because
one sock won't work for
MOST people.
How about something like
these-
Cute, huh?
Then you must find some of
those short peppermint sticks.
You can buy them
or just chew the hook off candy canes.
Then let the
peppermint stick
SNEAK UP ON
the SOCK!
Before you can say
Alla-ka-zam-whoheebobster-helloworld
that peppermint stick
has jumped into the sock
and worked its way down
into the toe.
Can you see it there?
I've pinched it to make it stay
and now I am gonna roll
that little sucker up
into what I like to call
THE SOCK ROLL.
Well, GREAT, we have a
SOCK ROLL.
Now~ what the heck do we do with that?
Welllllll....
There's another kinda roll
lying around my house
cuz I've been saving them.
Used toilet paper rolls.
No..No..Not used toilet paper..
Used up empty rolls.
They look like this when they are naked.
Don't worry about that little bit of
white tissue left-you won't see it soon.
Find some foil based wrapping paper.
Foil works best because you can
bend the edges down and you
don't have to glue/tape it
unless you want to go tape crazy.
Wrap the foil paper around
that roll leaving about 1/3"
extending over each end.
Simply bend the paper down
so that it overlaps the edge of the roll.
You will not see this when it is
done but you can glue/tape it
if you like.
Then..
Sneak up on those socks and
stuff them in the roll.
A roll in a roll.
I'm just keeping myself rolling here!;>)
Remember you won't see this at the end.
Then, take some sweet tissue paper
and cut an 18" x 18" piece~
or thereabouts.
Starting at one end,
roll that baby up and then
twist the ends so that it
looks like a big old fat
piece of taffy.
Laffy Taffy!
Now is that cute, or what?
I only need to tie a bit of ribbon
around the twist and I'm done.
And, when it's unwrapped
they will see the shiny foil roll
and NOT this..
Cuz the only place we
REALLY want to see THAT
is HERE.
And we don't even really want
to see it here because that
would mean that someone
like MyHero..
not pointing fingers here but it
has happened
has used the last piece on
the roll
 and neglected to replace
it and there is none to be found
making me want to scream
bad words...naughty words...
Right-
Now get rolling and wrapping
cuz it's DECEMBER and
Christmas Is Coming!
And I'll just say a little prayer for you
to have to go to the bathroom
a whole lotta times
(if you need empty rolls
to wrap your socks)
cuz I am just nice like that!;>)

  2. Cute, cute , cute! I don't think I'll pretty up the used roll....so that just for a second, they'll think that's what the gift is. Then I'll just laugh and laugh when I see their little disappointed eyes.... hugs...

  3. Well if you didn't show me something again - and I am thinking of other things that could be wrapped that way too - you are a genius. Speaking of geniuses - I have a family of them (they know everything) lol - except how to change a toilet paper roll - I am the only one who can do that!

  7. Diana, I like this wrapping idea. Would be cute for kids to wrap up some socks for their friends, well girls...I think they would enjoy this. We may want to keep every toilet paper roll we can get, as I have seen a commercial where they are doing away with the rolls. What is this world coming too? LOL. The way T.P. is being made over...makes me think soon they will be selling us old phone books at super high prices , to use. Ewwee... LOL. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

  15. What a darling way to wrap the socks.

One Christmas, we gave Steve's mother the money to purchase a new water heater. It wasn't an exciting gift, but one she desperately needed. To make it fun, we modeled a water heater out of a toilet paper roll and stuck the money inside.

  19. AWWWW, DIANA!! You DO beat ALL. What a cute idea---I've done it the EASY way, without the roll and the foil and the candy, and it was just SOCKS. This is a PRESENT, all wrapped and important and shiny. We DO have a habit of immediately putting them on to run around the rest of Christmas Eve, for that's when the whole bunch gets together for a Pinto Bean Supper and our presents-to-each-other. Those of us "of the house" or whoever is spending the night open a few from each other on Christmas Morning. Feeds the Happy of both sides, for whatever their own Traditional Time For Presents was observed.

    Happy December!!

  23. I just gave my sister all my empty rolls (don't ask why I had them, it's a hoarder thing) for her Hallowe'en decor. Maybe I'll have to save this idea for next year.

  25. Very crafty! One time someone told me that hamsters like to crawl into empty toilet paper rolls so you should save them for people who have hamsters. Now every time I change a roll I think of hamsters. My brain is scary.

  28. Oh, I remember this when you posted it before. It's a clever idea, Diana. I bought Jess some socks for Christmas, and it's such a boring gift but she loves to get them. I like the candy cane wrapping that you used too.

You know, I'm not a big fan of pate either. When I tasted it, I thought it was different and ok - the kind she bought was a chicken pate with spices from Trader Joes (she loved it). But I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Not my cup of tea, but now I can say that I tried it!

  35. A very cure idea and really when you think about it, you are recycling at the same time! I've been saving those empty rolls for awhile for another craft, but I might have to try this little trick while I'm wrapping away....
Thanks for the giggle of the day!!
