RHUBARB CRISP SO GOOD- I Liketa Died

Anyone out there that
LOVES RHUBARB?

Or--at least has a crush on it?
Yes?  No? Maybe?
Well, this will make you pucker up and shout
MAMA!

How do you make this delectable treat?
Well, first you must STEAL find some rhubarb.
I might, or might not have. "found" some at an abandoned house.
Not MY fault you ain't home....just sayin'..
Then you must WASH your rhubarb
 in case stray dogs
have been "watering it" for the absentee owners.
Then you need to chop it up.
I use kitchen shears and that works SOOO good!
Then toss it with some flour and sugar and cinnamon
(recipe follows)
Then dump it in the glass pan with some oatmeal, flour, butter & sugar
sprinkled on top.
Bake it up, baby---oh--you can almost smell it, can't you?
And, then serve it up to your hubby 
or significant other...
preferably wearing something like this~
And you MIGHT even get a compliment
on the rhubarb crisp
along with a raised eyebrow over the outfit!
(Ummm---if you live alone 
there is no need to dress up-
you can just go ahead and chow down).

So--Here's the recipe.
It is the easiest crisp I have ever made.

.Rhubarb Crisp:
Mix together:
4 cups rhubarb, cut into 3/4 " pieces
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Topping:
1 cup flour
½ to 1 cup brown sugar (I used just over ½ cup)
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup melted butter
Directions:
Combine rhubarb, sugar, flour and cinnamon and put into 8" x 8" glass baking dish.
Combine flour, brown sugar, rolled oats and melted butter and sprinkle streusel over rhubarb mixture.
Bake at 375 for 35 minutes
  
Come on over-
The kitchen is open!
ps- I PROMISE NOT to wear a French Maid's Outfit!

My beloved grandmother used to grow rhubarb and made the BEST pie. I haven't thought about rhubarb in a long time. YUM!

One thing I've never tried. It looks kinda like celery and how can that be good in pie.. the little voice in my head says.

My Mom makes the best rhubarb strawberry pie. Her husband planted their first plant in his garden this year. Lucky for my Mom she doesn't have to look for a vacated house and plant!

Diana, I remember walking down an alley with my brother and we took a stalk of rhubarb from behind someone shed...hey we were little . It sure was soar. Kids will eat anything. I have seen it in the produce dept. at our grocery. Hope your hero likes it. xoxo,Susie

I love rhubarb! I had a patch at home. I haven't found any in the stores yet. I make a mean rhubarb pie! Your recipe sounds so easy, now if I can just find some rhubarb.

LOL - all I need is the abandoned house! But seriously - this looks soooo good! My grandma had rhubarb growing in her garden and made wonderful pies. Since I'm unable to duplicate her wonderful crusts, this would be perfect for me!

I HAVE rhubarb growing in our garden ( don't like rhubarb lol ) my girlfriend, who loves, is pretty excited about it though !
Maybe I should make this for John - he loves it!
Diana have you ever seen rhubarb flower? I feel like an idiot asking this ( never grew it before - but never noticed flowers on it in anyone else's garden before either ) This one has such beautiful flowers !

I think it looks wonderful. I may have to buy mine as out here in the hot west, it is hard to find, unless I can find a city slicker that has some planted under a huge old tree. Then I will have to take a chance of knocking on a strangers door (Not Safe) Forget it I may now need to drive to town...

I made a rhubarb coffee cake.....fortunately some one GAVE me the rhubarb. Your crisp looks pretty darn good too. I do have some costumes I could try....just looked and I don't have a french maids uniform. :-( I'll keep my eyes open when I stop at the thrift store.

I don't know that I've ever even tasted rhubarb? I wish you could just send me a slice. I doubt they sell it at our grocer and I don't know where any abandoned houses are that might have it. I wonder if I'd even recognize it? It's pretty, though. You could put it in a flower garden and then be exempt from water restrictions since things you grow for your own consumption are generally exempt. We're going to have to start mixing in food if we want flowers - and want to water.

Rhubarb is one of my all time favorites. Some times I make rhubarb syrup, jam and of course rhubarb and strawberry pie. I'll have to try the crisp. Did you know that there is a variety of rhubarb that does not turn red on the stems?

Thanks for the recipe....that sounds like a "must try" kinda recipe for today. I have some growing in the backyard. Shall cut some up today...pronto!!! Well at least that absentee neighbors rhubarb is being put to good use. The maids outfit is cute...but I don't think it will fit ;)

Hi Diana, well it looks good, but I am highly allergic to rhubarb. I'm not kidding!! The one and only time I had just a fork full bite of rhubarb pie sent me to the hospital with a violent reaction. It was pretty awful. But it still looks good!!

This Rhubarb dessert looks scrumptious, Diana. I've never seen it chopped up like that because I've never cooked with it, how interesting. I think cinnamon adds a little something to many desserts. I made banana bread today and put a few pieces of chocolate on top - Yum.

You are always baking something special in your kitchen, Diana. It must smell soooo good.

Can you believe I have never made anything with rhubarb? I never liked it as a kid so I've never planted any or bought any. I do like it with strawberries in deserts I've had though and I like a lot of things now that I didn't like as a kid so I really should try it now. I'll have to scout out some abandoned houses and see if I find any lurking around ;)

Oh my.... does this ever look yummy! I love rhubarb and I do have two small dwarf rhubarbs in my flower bed. I get just enough cuttings off of it to supply my family with a couple cakes, muffins and anything else I can come up with. And now I can try your crisp! Yummy!

You are just a hoot, Diana! You make me laugh every time I drop by for a visit. So, do you actually own that little outfit at the bottom? Maybe something other than in black? LOL, just kidding!

Your rhubarb recipe brings back happy memories of my mother in-law's rhubarb kuchen. She introduced me to the taste of rhubarb, and I've loved it ever since. She never served it in an outfit like yours, though! It would have raised a few eyebrows, indeed! :)
