The Gypsy In Me

Spring always makes me long to roam.
There were nomads in our family line.
Men that traveled to set up new towns and,
once they were established, would move on to
build another settlement.
I think I inherited some of that trait...
that longing for the road.
While I LOVE my home, I sometimes long
to pack my bags and hit the road.
Spring and Fall both find me restless...
calling my name to  travel
the highways and byways of life.

IF I could pack up and travel I might
choose something like this.
I could see myself parking this
in a quiet spot in the foothills,
brewing a pot of coffee,
listening to classical music and
reading a good book.
Idyllic, yes?
This bit of retro travel heaven
would work just fine for me, too.
source
After a long idyllic drive through the countryside
I could crawl into this bed with a happy heart.
Couldn't you?
source
Maybe it's because I haven't been able to travel
for about a year that makes the open road
call my name.
Maybe it is because my soul is restless.
Maybe it is because I feel winter weary
and  anxious for Spring.
Whatever the reason I know it will pass
and I will be glad to be home with my family-
because home is where my heart lies
and how could I possibly BEAR to leave this?
After all, If I were gone who would take
WHO would protect her from
THE TOOTH FAIRY
when she loses her first tooth?
Wouldn't THAT tooth fairy give you nightmares?

Don't worry -he only plucks
false teeth out of the glass
on nightstands at night!

  1. Too funny Diana!!! Talk about traveling in luxury... Now after looking at the picture of the tooth fairy, I'm gonna have nightmares!

  2. LOL You find the funniest things! "Tooth Fairy"...eww!
But I, too, am enchanted by the "mobile homes." It would be so much fun to wander unfettered by any obligation. You would have my permission to embark, but ONLY if you promised to take your computer with you and keep posting! I have a feeling that you'd travel a few hours and then turn around, missing Sweet Cheeks, Bright Eyes, MyHero and the rest of the gang too much!

  3. I get the wanderlust when the weather gets better, but have never been tempted by one of those mobile homes. Give me a nice hotel with all the amenities please. You just crack me up with the Tooth Fairy. I never know what to expect from you.

  23. I am a bit a gypsy myself. Oh these were lovely travel trailers - gives me room for thought. I am always packing up an running away in my mind to another place, one of excitement and exploration. That is what took me through Arizona at the first of the year. What a sweet precious baby!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Those are beautiful travel homes. I'd hate to came in them, though. They'd get so dirty. And I don't think they'd look as pretty if they got all dirty. LOL And yes, that little one would be hard to leave. She's so sweet. I love her little outfit, too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh those are beautiful vardos. I have always wanted one with Goodyear tires and a steering wheel.

    ReplyDelete

  27. I know what you mean....I thought it was just me....Every spring and fall, my soul calls for another place....not just travel, but a different spot....and yes, eventually it passes....
How could you leave that little one? It is up to Grandmothers to share things that no one else can....

  28. That is a trailer after my own heart. I would be very happy living in it. The baby is so precious! It will be hard for you to leave her!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well I don't know about that first trailer, Diana! Wowzer! I do love the aqua retro one, it's adorable! And the floral one is just gorgeous, but I don't think all that stuff would make it road worthy:) I know, I am ever the practical one! I wouldn't want to stray far from that cute grand baby of yours, she is just precious! And so are all of your grand kids, you are blessed to have them. Can I run away with you? I'll load up the motor home, and swing by WI to pick you up! But you will have to drive the rest of the way, 'cause I am scared to drive it myself!! Have a great day, and watch out for that tooth fairy!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I could totally live in one of those and just park it where I wanted to be for a while, then move on. Nomads!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ooh, count me in...very in..on the gypsy life. But I'm not headed anywhere!

    ReplyDelete

It is said when you do that it is a sure sign that you want to go traveling.....hahahaha....love those frilly campers, what a nice get away. And that is one scary tooth fairy, glad he never came to my house when I was younger.

    Have a great week.,

  34. A Gypsy heart I have too, and I am ready to take a trip in May. We all need to break away from routine every now and then. We come back refreshed and renewed. I hope you travel the highways and byways of life, Diana. Who wouldn't love to travel in style with these caravans? Baby will be there waiting for you when you return. :~)

    love,
    ~Sheri

  39. I don't have the "Gypsy gene" - when the seasons change I long to "nest", yet again. If I could get all my friends and family to come to me rather than me going to them, I'd absolutely love it. That won't happen, so I have to keep my suitcase nearby. . .Bright eyes looks so peaceful and "cherubic" - I think that's a word. So sweet!

  40. I sure hope Spring arrives soon for you. I like to travel too...but I get very car sick, so I pretty much have to stick to flying. But, having said that, I do like the looks of that retro kitchen. :) Now, THAT might be fun!

  45. It's a good thing that we don't live close because I have those same feelings of just taking off. We'd be a pair, wouldn't we? That tooth fairy would scare any child/adult to death! Those are gorgeous ways to travel.

  46. I have been known to act like a gypsy. I do have a wanderlust, married to a man with homelust, so I've never just thrown caution to the wind and taken off. We have done some nice trips, but your pictures....show something deep in my heart...I could be happy in any one of those scenes. If you ever get the chance ...pick me up on your way out.

Your sweet baby just melts my heart with every picture.
And your tooth fairy just about scared the pee out of me. Yikes.

  47. Spring always makes me want to go on a road trip! Seriously--it's the only time of year that I feel like getting in the car and setting out.

Oh, that pink photo. . . she's so beautiful!

  48. I really like to drive but I sure can see myself having a 2 room cabin in the Smokey Mtns. right outside of bryson city nc. No fancy stuff like your samples, just lean and cozy and super insulated against varmints and waaaaaaaagoolies of any kind.. Just a take a little loaded 22 with me and an old yeller dog.. that sounds like the best time ever:)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I hope you've found a new and improved tooth fairy by the time she loses her first tooth...I don't liketo travel anymore..I've become a homebody..

  50. Diana, I think we all have a bit of travel fever now and again. I love to go but love to return home more!! These travel trailers are amazing. Love that aqua shabby décor. I could live right there and be very happy.
The baby is a bundle of sweetness. Such a darling in her pink sweater and bonnet. The tooth fairy, not so much!!
    Have a nice evening.
    Hugs!

  51. Oh yikes! That's one hairy fairy! You've gotta stick around to protect Bright Eyes from that one!

  53. Diana, I loved reading your blog and catching up with you. I had orders from momma that I was not to take them to Cracker Barrel that she had lunch in the fridge for us. I love your family pictures and they make such wonderful memories. Our three boys didn't want theirs taken and we never did get a good picture. I would love to travel, but I know that there is no way. We can dream though of where we would like to go. Have a good evening. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend

  54. I'm not much for leaving home...I wish I was better about it. There are places I'd love to see but probably never will. Traveling like your inspiration pics would be a blast though!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Any of those would work nicely for a getaway...I am not picky. Your bundle of joy would be hard to leave. That tooth fairy needs to back off. Nana Diana is the protector. xo

  56. I want a vintage camper. But we have so much that always seems to tie us here like a garden and grands :) Our oldest grand rarely sees her grandmother and sees her other grandfather when he is in town. The youngest grand's other grandmother lives in Scotland so we are the only grandparents she sees. I couldn't give up me time with them. Last year we took the oldest to Gulf Shores and had such a great time. I think we are going to try for a family trip this year. That tooth fairy is too frightening for me.

  57. Love the retro camper. We have a camper and I "kind of" shabbied it up, with bedding etc. Nothing major, my husband may have a fit!

Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog!

  61. The caravan is very fancy but would be hard to keep clean on the road, I would need a maid to take with me.
My the tooth fairy has good down hill since I was a girl, time for retirement.

  62. Haha I would be totally down with a big old Winnebago! I don't like to fly, nor do I want to leave Barbie behind. So road trips work best. So if we went on an RV trip, we would have a gypsy and a tramp...all we'd need is a thief!

  63. It was a long winter and a rather nippy spring...traveling somewhere else, anywhere else, sounds dreamy! :) That baby is dreamy!

  67. How funny!! I love your blog for a good laugh!! It does feel good to stretch our legs a bit in spring!! The baby would miss you! Your traveling options look grand!! Tough choice.:)
