Sweet Cheeks And The UN-Invitation

A couple of weeks ago
when the kids were here for
a snow day
SWEET CHEEKS
told me excitedly that on
Friday, February 28th,
her first grade class was having
A SPECIAL PERSON DAY.
Nana, she asked me so sweetly,
Will YOU be
MY SPECIAL PERSON
because you are my
MOST SPECIAL PERSON.

With a melting heart I said:
YES!

Last Friday, after school,
she called to remind me and to ask me
once again...
Nana, Will YOU be my SPECIAL PERSON?

With a smile on my face, of course I said:
YES!

Five mintues later the phone rang.
Nana, It's SweetCheeks.
Nana, You don't have to come to
school next Friday for
SPECIAL PERSON'S DAY.

Why not? I asked.
Well, because Uncle Ryan said he
COULD COME AFTER ALL!
So- I am NOT invited anymore?
Yeah....you're not invited.
Thanks, SweetCheeks!
You're Welcome!

I'm thinking of showing up anyway
with a TREAT.
We'll SEE who is the most
SPECIAL PERSON then!

  3. Out of the mouths of babes! How cute is that! I loved the morning giggle I just had, thank you! Also, thank you for stopping by and wishing my Mallory a Happy Birthday yesterday. We met for lunch between classes, then she will come home this weekend for a little family celebration and presents. Hmm, what will you be doing now on Friday since your calendar suddenly cleared? Enjoy!

  5. Diana, Can't help but laugh, kids can sure confuse us at times. I hope she remembesr just how special you truly are. :):) Those cupcake cones sure would remind her .LOL xoxox,Susie

  6. I had to laugh at this...however the cone cupcakes should help remind her how special you are!

  7. ha! a couple of years ago taylor had me come to her class to read to them as her "special person" and i was also invited to come to her polar express party (but i didn't wear my pj's!)...this year i've not been invited to anything! she's now all grown up in 4th grade and i guess it's not cool to have your mimi come to class anymore! (LOL) but i know where i stand with her and you know you can't be replaced either!

  8. LOL! It would be even funnier if she called you back and changed her mind again, Diana. I wonder how many people she asked so she'd be sure to have someone available. : )

  9. Poor Uncle Ryan, no treats and then his mom shows up with treats for the whole class

  10. Boy was she planning ahead! That girl has a future. She just needs Nana to teach her to be tactful. Those cupcakes should do it. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  11. LOL!! I love the way Sweet Cheek's mind works. I do think though that your cone treats will win her over.

  18. Oh, no! I can't believe she would choose Uncle Ryan over, you. Odds are it was just to make him feel special. After all, everyone knows that you ARE special. So yes - go anyway. Take those cupcake cones and show them all just how special you are. :-) I see no reason why Sweet Cheeks can't have TWO special people.

  19. Ohhhhh Cheeky cheeky girl, lol. She is a darling. I'd choose you any day.

  23. That little stinker! She had already asked someone before you but led you to believe you were her first choice. Hmmmm...........no hurt feelings there. No, not at all! I think she should bring you along too and call it "her special people".

  24. It makes me think of the movie Picture Perfect. Jennifer Anniston's character is working on an ad campaign for Gulden's Mustard and her ad line is, #2 And That Ain't Bad.

Now, are you old enough to remember Art Linkletter's Kids Say the Darndest Things?

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL! I know how you feel.

Yes! Show up with treats. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. You weren't even her first choice? That's hilarious! If I could bring some person to school, I'd bring you! (Chances of me taking someone to school is 0, so I feel safe in saying that).

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't doubt that your are Number 1. I'd show up with those cute treats and give Uncle Ryan a little competition.

  28. OOO, I laughed out loud when I read this...it is the CLASSIC plight of a Grandmother.....
I took a young grandgirl to dinner one night and was wearing a string of turquoise stones and she looked at me across the table and said,
"Memaw, did you think that necklace looked good on you?"......I remember laughing so hard, I spit coke all over the table. Aren't these times just priceless!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hahaha! At least you know you're a runner up to a special person.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LMHO - too funny - and soooo Sweet cheeks lol

  32. Oh, to remember the days when your kids actually WANT you to visit their school! Lol! Mine are mortified if I show up now. Ha! I totally think you should upstage Uncle Ryan with those delectable treats! :)

  33. You go for it. After all you are a special person.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Show up with the treats...she would be thrilled.

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL!!!! I knew something like that was going to happen even before I finished reading it....gotta love that Sweet Cheeks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a character She is!
She always know if she needs you, you're just a call away, Diana.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ha! Can you believe it? I don't know uncle Ryan, but I don't think he has all your charisma!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I used to teach and I remember all those Special Person's Days....fun. I think that the fact that she was so comfortable inviting and un-inviting you, knowing that you will love her so much anyway, is a testament to that fact that you really are her most special person! :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well ouch! That was painful. Kids, they really don't know what they say! My kids loved it when I did the cupcakes in ice cream cones! I wouldn't mind one now. This weather makes me want only baked goods!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Boo!! She didn't get that from you..that's for sure..How could she not think that would hurt you??? Kids...I know you'll come out on top anyhow...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Love our Grands....and we can share the love!
    :))
Those cupcakes look scrumptious. I'm sure they will be a hit....as will the Nana who brings them!!
    Hugs,
    J.

  42. LOL!!! You gotta love kids for their honesty. They have no idea and at least you were the special person for a brief time. Of course, you know in reality that you are always her most special person. xo Laura

  43. Oh no, you can't go to "special person day!" I know she thinks you're more than special though........I know I do. :~)

    ReplyDelete
  50. If she is anything like most kids that age you ARE her MOST special person. Unfortunately, MOSTEST went to Uncle Ryan!!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  51. Tee hee.....kids have no filters...I sure know that teaching Kindergarten...just think of it as winning the silver metal instead of gold. Still amazing! I am sure you will move up to Gold with those treats of YOURS....I bet Uncle Ryan can't bake..

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh my gosh.....that is so adorably sweet and innocent! You're the best Nana around!!!~~Angela

    ReplyDelete
  54. That's funny! So, old uncle Ryan beat you out...wonder how he bribed her....gotcha wondering now, don't it? That kid can sure knock you down a size in nothing flat.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh, Diana! How sad! I'm just stunned! You are so very, very, very special, dear Diana! I don't know what to say. Children can sometimes be so thoughtless! Unbelievable! I don't think I have ever known such a giving and caring person as you, Diana! Lot's of hugs to you, dear very special sweet lady!

    ReplyDelete
  56. That little stinker - out of mouths of babe's - you never know what they are going to say. You should show up with cupcakes to a different class. What's so special about her Uncle?
You are the best grandma and I would vote for you as the Best Grandma EVER.

  59. You gotta love their honesty! I hope it didn't hurt your feelings...she loves you and I'm sure you're número uno.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ahh but I know you are her most special Nana :) Maybe Uncle Ryan bribed her.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh my! At least you are the second most special person.

    ReplyDelete
  62. LOL! thats so funny.. that silly girl.. she must have her priorities all wrong. I think you need to spoil her just a little more, you know, climb back up that ladder into first place! lol!
