SweetCheeks & Scissors

This is Lulu.
Lulu has scissors.
Lulu is allowed to have scissors.
Lulu is cutting something but
she won't show us what it is yet.
This is Ria.
Ria has scissors too.
Ria can have scissors because
Ria only cuts what she is supposed to cut.
Whut are you mhaking? SweetCheeks asks.
I'll show you pretty soon!
Whut's hers mhaking, Nana?
I dunno, SweetCheeks...
guess we will have to wait and see.Uh-oh...Here comes the dreaded question..
Can I haff some scissors, too?
Huh? Can I have some too?
Can I, Nana, huh, can I?
Do I look like I just got off the crazy boat?
Don't answer that because there is NO good answer.
Do you remember the last time when you snipped
your hair to the scalp in front?
Huh? Or how about the time you cut the ribbons
off the pillow?
Or how about the time you took little snips
and pieces out of all my good magazines that
I hadn't had a chance to go through yet?
NO! SweetCheeks! You can't have
any scissors. Maybe next time.
Maybe in your dreams and my nightmares.
Oh! Look! Here it is, Nana!
SweetCheeks can't wait to see it!
Whut iss it? Huh? Whut iss it?
It's a snowflake, SweetCheeks!
Dat iss NOT a snowflake...
Dat is jusss paparh wiff holes cut in itt.
An' snow iss cold.
Pfffffttt...I doan want eny scissors enyways
cuz I doan wanna cut holes in paparh
cuz dats stooopid.
Sometimes all I can do is walk away
so that I don't wet my pants laughing.

Oh, that is just too funny about the snowflake! What will they come up with next? Hey, I see that we now get to see your beautiful face on your sidebar, Diana! Yes! No more mystery lady in the big sunglasses!

Isn't the self cut style something every kid must go through as a part of growing up? Or, at least most kids. There are a select few who decide it is more fun to cut a siblings hair. Or - if they don't get it out of their system before they go to school, they cut a classmates hair. It must be an unspoken right of passage or something, because it happens so frequently.

LOLOLOLOL-
I remember when my brother got scissors for the first time. He was sick, in the living room floor with his blanket and his pillow watching cartoons. I was cutting so he wanted to, too.
His blanket ended up looking like Ria's snowflake!
Good times!

Great snowflake!
The picture of those little faces - adorable!!
Those sure are some gorgeous kids!! It's a family tradition!!
Yes, the obligatory self-inflicted hair cut.
I remember it well from when my kids were little.
And one of my grandkids.
Oh! And I mustn't forget my teenage son, when he was in Jr. High.
He couldn't get some hair on the top of his head to lay down - even with water. So he did what any normal person would (NOT!) he cut it off at the root!!
When that hunk of hair grew back, he looked like Alfalfa!!
Who raised that child?!! Oh...
Never mind.

Hugs,
gabriele

Too funny Diana! I've had a couple of kids cut their own hair. Why don't they just try to trim the ends. Why do they always have to cut right at the scalp? :-)
Blessings,
Marcia

Too cute! Last Christmas our office was in "flux" being remodeled and all our decorations had been stored, so I drove everyone nuts by making snowflakes and paper chains...hey, I had to make do!

Oh...bless her little heart! I say it is stupid too whenever I would cut them wrong and end up with a big hole in my snowflake!!

There is just nothing quite like a 3 year old! Totally literal in one minute and then floating off in their own imagination the next! My daughter keeps informing me that they are NOT called Snowflakes, they are called "Snowflags". I've just embraced the term at this point! :-)

You must tend these girls...they sure give you a lot of blog material..and I think I am starting to talk like sweet cheeks?! ;D

LOL! That's too cute! I think she was trying some reverse psychology on you! Chalk on construction paper makes pretty, soft looking snowflakes and saves the hair and ribbons.

I don't let my husband have scissors, either. The last time he had some in his hands, he trimmed his daughter's bangs to 1/2" long.....She still gives him a hard time about that 30 years later!! lol!

I think YOU'RE a wise Nana not to give in and give her the scissors after reading her prior history! I'm sure it wasn't easy though! We haven't had 'THAT' haircut yet (with our Lulu) and I'm not looking forward to it either! Love the snowflake! Will it go on your tree? Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs

Cute-I think I was always a perfectionist with scissors-never could get the perfect snowflake though!

Remember the show, Kids say the darnedest things. She could have been on that show! Maybe you should write a book. It would sell!

Both stories are a hoot! Wow, I wouldn't have wanted to be the x baby sitter. :) That should give her food for thought, for some time to come. :)

I once opened my trash can to find a pile of brown hair and a pile of yellow (not blonde) yellow, hair. I scrambled around to see what the heck had happened and found my 2 year old and my golden retriever watching t.v. contentedly. In shock and horror I screamed, what happened? My daughter looked calmly at me and said, Dylan (3 year old brother) gived us a haircut mommy. Yep, you guessed it, right at the roots in the middle of her head. And the retriever? Apparently he never turned her over and she was laying on her side so only one side got a new haircut. It was very special.
